If you make a point to visit any restaurant this summer make it Miss Katie’s Crab Shack at the Public Bar. It’s across the road from the Queen Victoria Market.

This airy and vibrant bar is the type of place that seems heaven sent if you’re in the mood for it. And what sets the mood for great fried food, lots of ice cold beer, a tremendously fun atmosphere, and an outdoor seating area? Summer, that’s what!

The menu is small and simple. You either go after the crab burger, the crab boil, or the fried chicken wings(!!!)! You also take a good hard look at the specials board (mac and cheese croquettes) and the sides (the fries were wonderful and came with blue cheese). Then you run over to the bar and get a round of drinks for your friends.

But if you’re not the type to shout your friends, or are too poor during this christmas season like the rest of us mere mortals, rest assured at Miss Katie’s Crab Shack it’s easy, and preferred if orders are kept separate.

With newspaper covering every inch of all the table tops and paper bibs available at a polite request, Miss Katie’s Crab Shack sets the scene for you to get a little crazy, drink your beer faster than usual and have a bit more fun.

Miss Katie’s Crab Shack, I take my sailors hat off and salute you, or something like that.
