The title of this blog post is misleading because it’s not fact. Freckleduck is not opening in Melbourne. That’s just what I’m putting out into the universe so that maybe, one day, it actually happens. I’m thinking about starting a petition too.
I know the Melbourne cafe scene is already saturated with delicious venues and I’m aware that begging for an additional one is ludicrous and selfish, but Freckleduck is different. It’s a standout. Their menu is creative, interesting and well priced.
I want to get to know it better. If I was on the bachelorette, and I was dating cafes instead of men, my single date pick would always be Freckleduck and I would give it a rose immediately upon arriving to our top-secret date location for a super chill skydive.
This is going to sound boring – I ordered the bacon and eggs. If you take a moment to delve deeper into the menu though you’d realize it’s potential. This incredible dish is actually made up of maple bacon steak, creamed corn on two perfectly poached eggs and a bed of cheddar and jalapeño corn bread. Not your typical bacon and eggs at all. No, sir.
And it wasn’t only the food that got me. Our coffees, beans by Five Senses, were perfectly executed for our individual preferences. Mine was a strong flat white and Lucinda’s was a normal flattie (which tasted like warm milk to me but that’s exactly the point). The atmosphere is fun and welcoming yet calming.
Freckleduck has looks, personality and the brains to back it all up. To be honest, I don’t know even know why Freckleduck signed up for the bachelorette in the first place.
