One of my favorite things about training for a half marathon is the week leading up. That week when everyone tells you that you MUST rest, and you MUST carb load. And all you can do is listen and obey because it’s your first time doing a half marathon and you’ll do anything anyone tells you.
Usually on Thursday morning at 7am I would be half way through my personal training session. But this glorious week I was absolutely not doing that. I was on my way to rest and carb load at the Doughboys Doughnut Pop Up Shop in the CBD. I won’t explain where it is but if you find yourself on the corner of Little Lonsdale Street and William Street you’ll be able to smell it out.
Doughboys is serving up Market Lane Coffee which is now my favorite and a treat all on it’s own. I usually ask for a double shot but I don’t have to with them. It’s just the way they make it, and isn’t it nice when someone happens to make your coffee just the way you like it! They also don’t make coffee with skinny milk, which I love and admire and respect!
Now, please don’t judge us, but Bel and I didn’t want to make our taste buds miss out on anything so we decided to try one of each flavor doughnut they were serving up. Pistachio, Choc Nut, Maple Bacon, and Lime Coconut, all dipped on demand made especially for us! We then proceeded to make a Choose your own adventure game out of it. Cut up the pieces and make the perfect doughnut.
I really was planning on bringing some of it back to work, but we were pleasantly surprised by how nice the maple bacon was and had to finish it. I was crushing on the coconut, so that was gone. Bel’s favorite was the pistachio so that one didn’t make it out alive either. And, well, you can’t really just take 3/4 of a choc nut doughnut to work with you so I have it as dessert.
Doughboys Doughnuts is only a pop up shop. After a month it’ll all be over and who knows where they’ll go next. So get them while you still can, but I say we rally and get them to stay in Melbourne. Who’s with me? Bel?
