Drinking Around The World

On Visiting Epcot

There are many reasons why one would choose to spend an entire day in Disney’s Epcot Theme Park. You may want to get up close and personal to the giant golf ball, for example. I wanted to challenge my family to a game called “Drinking Around the World”. People think that visiting Epcot is about learning, using your imagination and experiencing cool rides, but it’s really about how many countries you can drink in a single day. The park is made up of two areas: The Future World and The World Showcase.

The Future World focuses on shows and rides on the subject of technological innovations, while The Wold Showcase is made up of 11 pavilions. Each pavilion represents the best aspects of an individual country.

Here’s what you need to know…

Visiting Walt Disney World as an Adult is so good!

Growing up in Miami, I spent a fair bit of time in Disney World. As a kid, I loved it. As an adult, I love it even more. I went to college in Orlando for six months and had a yearly pass to the theme parks. It was not weird to find me at Hollywood Studios on a Saturday morning watching the Indiana Jones show, once again.

There are so many people who tell me they are waiting to have kids to go to Disney World for the first time. I then have to lecture them about how silly and wrong that is, and I encourage them ton book a trip asap. Walt Disney World is as much of a wonderland for adults as it is for kids.

Here are some tips for when you finally decide to grow up and visit the happiest place on earth.

1. Leave the kids at home. There are so many reasons to visit the parks without kids. The number one reason is, of course, alcohol. Alcohol is available at all the main parks at Disney world, day and night. The number two reason would be freedom, but that’s self explanatory.

2. Level your expectations. Disney World isn’t Six Flags. Within all the Orlando theme parks there are only a handful of rides you can label “thrillers”. The rides here are not the tallest, scariest, fastest rides in the world. If that’s what you’re after, you’re in the wrong place. Disney rides follow a story, they are about fun, inspiration and imagination. Do make sure to go on the Rock N Roller, the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Space Mountain and Splash Mountain though.

Fried Chicken in Miami Beach Round 2

Miami Beach

If you were to ask me for a lunch/dinner recommendation in Miami Beach I would quickly yell “Yardbird Southern Table and Bar”. Then, I would hand you one of their business cards because in a perfect world I would carry them around.

It’s no secret I love Yardbird, I’ve written about the restaurant before. This place is so consistent and dependable (and delicious and fun) that it needs to be mentioned again. Plus, they recently opened a new location in Las Vegas and that’s very exciting!

We came here for the fried chicken, of course; it’s the restaurant’s specialty. We somehow managed to not freak out when we found out the frier was broken. The menu is filled with so many other goodies. Between five people we shared the ribs, the cornbread, the bone marrow, the fried green tomato BLT, the chicken liver toast and the iceberg wedge salad.

I knew we made the right decision when Jack looked at me with a BBQ stained smile and demanded we come back every time we visit Florida. I was all like “duuhhhh” as I tried to stop melted butter from streaming down my arm.

It got better from there.

In the last quarter* of dinner our waiter said there was an angel watching over us: they would now be serving the fried chicken again. I know, I know. We definitely didn’t need any more food but since Jack and I live half way around the world from Yardbird we indulged in Mama’s Chicken Biscuits. The hero dish!

Oh, and the drinks. They are just as tasty as the food! I am more of a wine and beer person but I can’t resist a cocktail here. The Southern Peach and the Watermelon Sling are among the favourites.

With it’s fancy southern flair, long wait time and cool atmosphere the restaurant can seem intimidating. But in reality Yardbird is welcoming and laid-back, which I think is exemplified in physical form by their Crunch-n-Munch Bread Pudding (M&M’s bread pudding, popcorn ice cream, and candied pretzels). 100% worth it.

When I decided to write about Rocco’s Tacos in Fort Lauderdale, Florida I got really excited. It’s the kind of place that brings back wonderful memories and plants a smile on your face. There’s no way you could go to Rocco’s Tacos and be in a bad mood. But if you do somehow (you sneaky bastard) find yourself there during a Debbie Downer stage there’s no way you are staying that way after the guacamole bar rolls out.

Yes, that’s right. A GUACAMOLE BAR! It was my first time seeing one too. So. A guy (or girl) comes out of who knows where with a small, mobile bar which just happens to be jam packed with every possible ingredient needed to create guacamole. Whoops. I forgot. We’re calling it Guac now. There are no formalities at Rocco’s Tacos, just extraordinary guac. Delicious salsa and spiced chips join in on the side. It’s all fantastic. I could live a lifetime of happiness only ordering the choose-your-own-adventure guacamole, but that would be barbaric. So I get more.

The carne molida tacos are great, as are the fish tacos. Order any of their margarita pitchers and you are bound to have a great experience.

The only thing that could ruin Rocco’s Tacos for you is having to wait for a table, but I’m preparing you for it. If you head to there on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday you are bound to hit about an hour wait. It’s fine though! Think of the guac! You knew this would happen, and the bar is just there. To your left. I’m probably also doing that thing of telling you the wait is an hour long so when they call your name in 30 minutes it feels like it was a mere 5. You’re welcome!
