Another weekend has come and gone in Melbourne and a new cafe has opened up in Fitzroy. Surprised? Nah. Excited? Yes! Yes! Yes! My goodness, yes! And I’ll tell you why.
Addict is located on Johnston St. between Smith St. and Brunswick St. making it approximately 3 minutes walking distance from our apartment.
Jack and I visited on Sunday, their opening day. We didn’t know much about it, all we knew was that we were a bit hungover and needed food. Good food. Brunch food. Lucky for us, Addict serves All Day Breakfast and they do it well!
At 12pm the only seats free were on the one 10 person communal table. The atmosphere is chilled out and uncomplicated, the staff is friendly and the menu is small with a variety of options. Decorating were kept simple and clean, which lets you concentrate on the important things… like the baked good at the front counter, the small batch of greenery hanging from the ceiling and the coffee.
I had the potato hash and mushroom duxelles with a poached egg and caramelized onion. It was as delicious as it looks typed out, a small tower of perfection. Jack had the corn fritters with halloumi cheese. With big excited eyes and a full mouth he looked up at me and said, “Oh, yea! That’s REALLLLL good!” I would take his word for it since he is a self-proclaimed corn fritters connoisseur.
The only bad thing about Addict is that the potato hash was so good the first time around I’ll probably never get to try anything else on the menu.
